Even Competitors Struggle to Reach the Final Race!
The first sails of this year's Easter Regatta
brought a lot of excitement, confirming once more that the
competitors are equally skilled and the outcome almost
unpredictable. Today's sailing conditions only added to the
suspense and score uncertainty. From the first windward mark of the
opening race onward the order changed depending on the wind, so the
crews that anticipated incoming wind changes the best also gave the
best performance.
Also, frequent changes in wind direction enabled the crews to show their sailing skills and speed up which made the regattas very interesting. The Group C offered the least uncertainty as far as the crossing of the finishing line is concerned. Lemešić's boat, the Bare, was the most convincing windward and Karlo Kuret's crew, as expected, sailed an excellent race as well, while Zoran Lazić's crew gave its best in the last race.
Big sailboats offered many interesting duels. One of the most interesting was the 'a'la one design' offered by the three Beneteau 40.7 sailboats just as they used to in the waters of Vodice…
The best performance was offered by the Jonathan crew with Darko Hajdinjak at the helm. Good starts, excellent speed and insightful navigation along the course enabled the crew to win with a convincing lead in all of the three legs. Everyone enjoyed the duels between the two fastest sailboats, the Branko and Teuta, while the first sail was won by Zlatan Zoričić's steady hand leading the Branko smoothly to the finishing line.
Frane Brate and Marin Mišura sailed the second race excellently, but in the third race they experienced a mild set back, so the Slovakian Quebremar took the lead. In the third race the Polet roughly took the lead from the Teuta at the leeward buoy by which the Comet 45 lost a great deal. As the time passed the X-Cite of Tonko Rameša improved and in the second race they took advantage of the bad start that set most of their competitors back and in the third skillful sailing reminded of the days when they celebrated as the winners of Easter Regatta. The new group constellation is most unfavorable for the smallest boats, and the duels between Frane Barbieri and Branko Iljadica Rapo will offer a great deal of excitement tomorrow, on the second day of Easter Regatta competition.
